2011 Winter Lights Christmas Celebration at Grove City

Activities
Visitors of all ages will enjoy live reindeer, horse-drawn carriage rides, traditional carols, an ice sculpture, a juggler, balloon artist, the official Grove City tree lighting and more at the annual Winter Lights Christmas Celebration. Pictures with Santa Claus will be taken by T.W.I.G. 184 for $5, with all proceeds benefitting Nationwide Children?s Hospital. Carriage rides are free, but a monetary or canned food donation is requested to benefit the Grove City Food Pantry.

Charitable Donations
Nonperishable food, toy and monetary donations will be collected for the Grove City Food Pantry and the Jackson Township Fire Department’s Toys for Kids program the night of the event. Canned food donations may be dropped off at the Grove City Welcome Center and Museum, 3378 E. Park Street.

Parade
The parade will begin at 7:30PM and feature floats decorated in Christmas lights. The parade route will start at Park Street Intermediate School and proceed north on Wilbur Avenue, turn west down Columbus Street, travel south on Broadway through the Town Center and progress east on Park Street back to the school. The Town Center tree lighting will commence immediately following the parade.

Christmas at the Farm

Join us as the Haunted Farm goes from scary to merry! Enjoy a tractor drawn hayride through the farm, displaying thousands of lights and listening to the sounds of the Christmas season. Visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, enjoy hot chocolate at the bonfire.

COSI’s Holiday Science of the Season

Avoid brain freeze at COSI this holiday season. When it is chilly, we get silly with science in a winter wonderland! Don’t miss our Holiday Lights Show where our Gadgeteer takes you on a whirlwind tour of holiday lighting, with fiery explosions, super-cold liquid nitrogen fun, and a “reindeer-powered” generator that triggers over ten thousand twinkling holiday lights!

Grand Illumination Ceremony

Join Mayor Michael B. Coleman for a celebration of the holiday season and Grand Illumination of Bicentennial Park, the Scioto Mile Promenade, City Hall and Columbus Commons. In the spirit of giving, support the Empty Bowls project by purchasing a piece of handcrafted pottery and enjoy a warm gourmet treat compliments of Milestone 229. All proceeds benefit the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Culminate the evening with a holiday lights walking tour led by Mayor Coleman and Santa, departing from Bicentennial Park, strolling along the Promenade and concluding at Columbus Commons. Celebrate the season as Downtown Columbus comes alive during the holidays. Twinkling lights and a holiday tree will greet visitors to City Hall where children can drop off that special letter at Santa?s workshop. Columbus Commons comes alive with lighted displays to delight the young and young at heart. Stroll along the illuminated Scioto Mile Promenade to Bicentennial Park where penguins, snowmen and Santa will welcome visitors to a winter wonderland. Stop in Milestone 229 to warm up with a hot beverage and dinner while enjoying a panoramic view of the park and downtown skyline.

Holidays at the Conservatory

Celebrate the holiday season at Franklin Park Conservatory with an elegant display of poinsettias, seasonal trees with thousands of twinkling lights, enhanced programming, live entertainment and activities for all ages. The traditional poinsettia tree, along with hanging baskets and plant displays of cinnamon, holly and citrus trees set the stage. View the delightfully creative entries in the fourth annual gingerbread competition and vote for the best of show. In the Atrium Gallery, twenty original Currier & Ives lithographs of winter scenes of days gone by are on view along with the commissioned, professionally-created gingerbread structures they inspired. Beloved fairy tales are brought to life in a whimsical, new model train by designer Paul Busse.

Holiday Choir Performances at the Ohio Statehouse

Free lunch-time concerts from Ohio musical groups will take place weekdays from December 5 to December 22, 2011. Musical performances are scheduled each weekday at noon in the Museum Gallery on the ground floor of the Ohio Statehouse. Staff and visitors will be treated to a lunch hour concert as Ohio choirs and musical groups celebrate and sing the songs of the season. The performances are free and open to the public.

Statehouse Holiday Tree Lighting and Festival

The 2011 Ohio Statehouse Tree Lighting and Holiday Festival marks the beginning of the holiday season on Capitol Square and throughout Ohio.

The evening will commence with guests welcoming Santa Claus when he arrives at the Ohio Statehouse in retro style behind the wheel of a classic “horseless carriage” at 5:30 p.m. on the West Plaza (High Street side). In addition, the tree lighting ceremony makes its return this year to the Ohio Statehouse with the illumination of two beautiful holiday trees. After Capitol Square is lit with holiday cheer, the celebration will flow inside the Statehouse for an evening of fun for all.

For children and adults of all ages, this family-friendly festival will also include holiday music sung by a variety of choirs, a Santa and Mrs. Claus photo station, activities, displays, special performances and refreshments. The free and public Tree Lighting and Holiday Festival invites families from across the Buckeye State to join together at their State Capitol to rekindle holiday cheer and state pride.

Visitors are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
