Celebrating Mother’s Day is a special way we can pay tribute to her, and it also lets her know that she’s very special to us!
Looking back over the years, I realize my mother never forgot what we did to celebrate her special day.
She loved everything we made such as crayon pictures, the meals we cooked for her (with dad’s help), and the family pictures we would have from that day.
Give your Mother the day off and make her day special in your own way!

Celebrating Mother’s Day – Things Kids Can Do
Breakfast in Bed
Start celebrating Mother’s Day by giving Mother the day off! Let her sleep in while you make breakfast. It’s a very special treat for Mother to have a nice breakfast in bed with flowers.
Breakfast Recipes
Pastries
Buy her favorite pastries for breakfast, serve them with orange juice, coffee or tea and her favorite flower.
Yogurt and Fruit Breakfast
Get mother’s favorite yogurt and her favorite fresh fruit.
You can put the yogurt in a pretty bowl.
Slice the fruit and arrange around the edge of the bowl so it’s decorative.
Serve with her favorite drink and a rose.
Strawberry French Toast
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 4 tablespoons of sugar
- 4 slices of bread (French bread 1 inch thick)
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 4 eggs
- 3 teaspoons butter
- 6 fresh strawberries
- Syrup
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F
Combine the sliced strawberries, lemon zest, lemon juice and sugar, and then set it aside.
Slice the French bread in half, and then cut an opening in each slice in the center. Fill the opening with the sliced strawberry mixture, if needed you can use toothpicks to secure them in place. Arrange the bread in a 9″x13″ buttered baking dish.
In a small saucepan, add the sugar, vanilla, milk, baking powder and eggs. Stir well and pour over the bread turning the bread over to coat both sides. Refrigerate for a half hour, (turn the bread a couple of times).
In another 9″x13″ buttered baking dish, put the bread in and bake for 4 minutes on each side.
Serve with fresh strawberries on top, syrup and fresh flowers.
Eggs Florentine
- 1 package chopped frozen spinach (10 ounces)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 cups of half-n-half
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 8 eggs (poached)
- Shredded cheddar cheese
Cook the spinach (follow instructions on the package).
In a saucepan, melt the butter and then add the flour, mix this thoroughly. Add the half-n-half slowly; stir constantly until it starts to bubble.
Butter a baking dish, put the spinach in, and then place the poached eggs on top of the spinach.
Pour the sauce over the eggs, add the shredded cheese.
Bake at 400 degrees F until the cheese is melted and slightly browned.
Serve with her favorite drink and wildflowers.
Paint Mother A Flower Pot
You’ll need:
- 6″ clay flower pot
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes
- Potting soil
- A flower or pack of seeds
Paint a design on the pot. It can be anything you would like such as a butterfly, or a number one mother blue ribbon, a plant, or something that makes you think of mother.
On the other side of the pot or on the bottom, put your name and the date.
Fill the pot with potting soil and plant your seeds or plant.
As these grow, mother can put them outside in her flower garden or maybe she’ll prefer to keep them in the house. She’ll be celebrating Mother’s Day year round!
Make Mother a Card
You can paint or color your own Mother’s Day card.
All you need is some construction paper, crayons or acrylic paint.
Fold the construction paper in half, and draw or paint a pretty picture for Mother on the front.
I like the idea of drawing a picture for mother that tells her what you think of her!
Let that dry, then fold that in half and they can sign the inside of the card.
If you have access to a computer, you can also print out a pretty poem on the inside, or let them write a short poem on the inside.
Another idea would be a note saying: Celebrating Mother’s Day all year long because we love you.
Make a Spa Basket for Celebrating Mother’s Day
You’ll need:
- Bath Salts
- Bubble bath
- Bath Oil
- Fragrant bath soaps
- Scented votive candles
- Basket
- Seal wrap
Arrange all the goodies in a nice basket – and then make a card to put in the basket.
Then use plastic seal to cover the basket and put a pretty ribbon on it.
Frame Family Pictures
Mother’s always love family pictures or pictures of the kids.
You’ll need:
- Fun foam, a piece that’s about 6″ larger than the picture you’ll use.
- A sheet of construction paper or cardboard at least the same size of the foam.
- Your photo
- Elmer’s glue or a glue stick
- Ribbon or yarn 6″ long
- Decorations like sequins, ribbons to make bows, fabric paint or whatever you like.
Looking at the picture you’re going to frame, decide on a shape for your frame. It can be a star, octagonal, rectangle, oval, heart, or any shape you want to make it. Draw the shape on the piece of foam but make sure it’s at least 1″ larger than the picture.
Cut out the section inside your drawing to display the picture. Cut the construction paper or cardboard to fit the back of your foam frame. It can be a little smaller than the frame. Glue your picture to the paper and then glue that to the back of the foam (making sure your picture shows through).
Punch a hole in the top of the foam frame with a hole punch. Take the ribbon or yarn and put it through the hole and tie it at the top. Now decorate your frame by gluing sequins or buttons on it, or whatever decorations you want.
I hope celebrating Mother’s Day this year is very special for each of you!
